Spider plant: how to care for it to keep it healthy

Despite its delicate appearance, this plant boasts a surprisingly vigorous root system that allows it to thrive even when watering is missed (yes, it happens to everyone!). Its slender, often two-toned leaves grow into a beautiful rosette that unfurls gracefully. In spring, it even sends out small, trailing stems bearing tiny white flowers and, as an added bonus, attractive offshoots ready to become new plants.

The art of finding the perfect spot

The spider plant loves soft light: near a bright window, but never in direct sunlight, like we were on our terrace on an August day. A moderate temperature – between 18 and 24°C – puts it at its best. If you feel the air is too dry (heating, air conditioning, etc.), a few mistfuls of water will instantly revive it.

Watering: the right rhythm to adopt

The golden rule: let the soil dry out slightly between waterings. In winter, watering once a week is enough; in summer, twice a week depending on the temperature of your home. If your tap water is hard, opt for filtered or left to stand: your plant will reward you with even more vibrant leaves.

The right mix for perfect potting soil

It prefers light, well-drained soil. A universal potting mix blended with a little sand works perfectly. If you want to boost its growth during the warmer months, a gentle fertilizer once or twice a month is more than enough.
