The 5-Minute Hood Clean Trick That Actually Works (No Scrubbing!)
-
Soak Your Cloth: Submerge a microfiber cloth or a sponge in the hot solution until it’s saturated. Wring it out so it’s damp but not dripping.
-
The “Melt-Away” Wipe: Immediately drape the hot, wet cloth over the greasiest parts of the hood’s exterior. Let it sit for 3-5 minutes. This is the critical no-scrub step. The heat and vinegar are working to break the bond between the grease and the metal.
-
Wipe Clean: After a few minutes, simply wipe the hood down with the cloth. You’ll see the grease slide off effortlessly. For stubborn corners, you may gently wipe with the cloth, but true scrubbing shouldn’t be necessary. Rinse your cloth in the solution as needed.
-
Final Rinse & Shine: Go over the entire surface with a clean cloth dampened with plain water to remove any vinegar-salt residue. Dry immediately with a separate clean, dry cloth to prevent water spots and bring up a brilliant shine.
Don’t Forget the Filter: The Heart of the Hood
A clean exterior is pointless if the filter is clogged. For a metal mesh filter, the same solution is your hero.
-
Remove the filter and place it in the sink or a basin.
-
Pour the remaining hot salt-vinegar solution over it, or submerge it. Let it soak for 5-10 minutes.
-
Rinse thoroughly under very hot water. Watch the grease and grime wash directly down the drain.
-
Let it air dry completely before clipping it back in.
For charcoal filters: These cannot be cleaned and must be replaced according to the manufacturer’s instructions (typically every 3-6 months with regular use).
